It's been said that short people should refrain from wearing horizontal stripes because it will make you look even shorter. Not the case if you limit the count of those stripes. I've come to learn that tucking in all my tops and raising up my bottoms as far as can go can solve a whole lot of proportion problems. This is especially true with horizontal stripes.
A couple tips on horizontal stripes:
1) Opt for a higher neckline. You could grow an extra inch or two just by adding a couple more stripes to the neck.
It makes a huge difference.
2) Do choose stripe layouts that play with different scales. A combination of thick and thin can be deceiving on the body. The eyes will be tricked.
3) Keep the rest of the outfit solid heavy so you give those stripes room to breathe.
The details matter. And it shows.
So do wear horizontal stripes. If you're short, just make sure you cut it short.
