When I first found out about NikeLab's upcoming collaboration with Sacai last month, I almost cried. In moments like these, I realize how obsessive I can get over designer collaborations. It didn't matter if it was going to properly fit my short stature. All I knew was that this collection was made for me and I planned on getting first dibs, whatever that was going to take. So... I took a day off work. And snatched the windrunner and sport skirt in royal blue, my color of choice, on opening day.
Yes, I was that desperate.
By incorporating multiple pleated panels into standard activewear silhouettes, the collection infuses just the right amount of Sacai's fem and Nike's sport. It's light activewear fabric and design encourages movement and play, perfect for my everyday weaving in and out of traffic in the busy city on foot, now possible to do ever so gracefully. The jacket fits well and so does the sport skirt as long as I pull the waistband up all the way to the chest so as not to allow the hem to drop past the knee since midi skirts are a huge no-no if you've got shorter legs like me.
I took this outfit for a casual jog around Dumbo, in Brooklyn last week and I must say I don't think I've had so much fun wearing a piece of garment. The pleats demand you to run, twirl, pivot, dance, move around and just do something with your body. Additionally, we had a lot of fun shooting the pieces in action, making sure it was true to motion as the initial campaigns had presented. And indeed, motion we witnessed.
